Restoring Proper Mechanical Function Through Integrated Physical Rehabilitation
When a patient has a condition that requires surgery, there is often pain, inflammation, scar tissue adhesions and swelling at the injured site and the surrounding soft tissue (muscles, tendons & ligaments) structures. By using Active Release Technique we are able to break up scar tissue and reduce pain and inflammation. Additionally, it is a proven fact that patients who undergo surgery in good physical condition, greatly improve their chances for a successful operation. Proper PREHAB including ART and controlled specific exercise, prepares your body, and more specifically, your area of injury, for the surgical procedure by optimizing muscles and correcting muscle imbalances around the surgical site, improving the efficacy of surgery and shortening recovery time. We have also seen many cases where surgery was delayed significantly or even avoided because symptoms had resolved completely.
After a person has gone through surgery there is often swelling, inflammation and scar tissue build up in the soft tissues around the surgical site. Utilizing Active Release Technique combined with ultrasound and electric stim we are able to break up scar tissue and end the cycle of inflammation, decreasing pain and improving range of motion. Again, ART in coordination with proper controlled exercise to strengthen and balance the repaired site will result in better and quicker outcomes.
